Collection of articles is the most common type of thesis today and it is becoming increasingly common in fields that have previously been dominated by the monograph. There are absolute requirements in the PhD regulations, and writing papers to meet these requirements depend on the individual thesis and the norms in the field concerning number of articles, length of summary article etc. When a thesis consists of several shorter papers, the thesis must include clear explanation of how they are interrelated. This i called a cape or a summary article.
Articles can be written in cooperation with others, following rules and regulation concerning co-authorship.
